WHO’S READY FOR ADVENTURE?
Silvermine Retreat is a quintessential Smoky Mountain cabin ideally situated between the Appalachian Trail on the ridge above and the Nantahala River and Outdoor Center (NOC) exactly two miles below. World-class amenities for kayaking, rafting, hiking, mountain biking, and fly fishing are nearly right out your front door. After your day on the water or in the mountains, head back to the cabin for a soak in the hot tub next to the campfire or listen to the creek while swinging on the screened porch. If you’re too worn out to make use of the fully stocked kitchen and propane grill, the River’s End Restaurant, Big Wesser Riverside Pub (with frequent live bluegrass), and a general store are located right at the bottom of the hill.
The cabin is cozy and romantic enough for just a couple but equipped for a group of up to nine people. Accommodations include ensuite bathrooms in both the master (queen bed) and guest (two full beds) bedrooms on the second floor and a queen pullout sofa, twin daybed, and full bathroom with laundry machines on the first floor. Access to the second story is provided through a spiral staircase in the living room and an outdoor staircase by the front door.
Families with young kids will be happy to find a Pack and Play, high chair, box of toys, and stack of board games. Additionally, kids and adults alike will love taking a ride through the Nantahala Gorge on the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad, located in Bryson City only 15 minutes from the NOC. And for those unable to completely disconnect, the high-speed satellite internet provides plenty of bandwidth for remote work. Up to two dogs are permitted with an additional fee.
Silvermine Retreat provides easy access to Tail of the Dragon and the Cherohala Skyway and is just over an hour from Clingmans Dome and the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. The driveway was extended in 2022 to make motorcycle access more friendly. Although there are gravel roads leading to this cabin, they are packed and maintained by the county, making the Silvermine Retreat a great way to get into the mountains year-round. While we have indicated this listing as “motorcycle friendly,” this assumes that riders coming to this area are experienced with mountain roads. Each individual should assess their own skill level and consider conditions before relying on our assessment or feel free to contact our office for specifics about towing a trailer.
Make sure you check out the Xplorie program that is included with every stay at a Watershed Cabin. This benefit provides a free admission to each of several area attractions every single day of your stay!
